DHCP Server for Remote LANs

Hello,

I'm interested in setting up a DHCP server on my Astaro appliance for a remote LAN. My switch forwards the DHCP to the appliance. All I've seen on the interface seems to require a local interface on the network range for the DHCP server -- anyone know if it's even possible to have remote LAN support for DHCP?

    Thanks for the reply! I'm actually interested in using this on a single LAN, however I'd like to use my layer 3 switch for routing (higher throughput) and pipe it out to my Astaro gateway for internet. I have a handful of LANs on my home lab for VM builds. Looks like the following:

    Astaro --> ProCurve V1910 --> Handful of networks.

    I'd like to configure the ProCurve to pass certain networks DHCP requests to the Astaro. Can't figure out how to configure these non-locally connected networks in the Astaro though.

    I'm confused about what you mean by "remote" if the networks are connected to the HP switch.  Where are the devices getting IPs at present?

    Hi Bob,

    They're currently getting static IPs assigned. The Procurve switch supports layer3 routing so it is the default gateway for all clients on those networks. It does not, however, support a DHCP server and I'd prefer to run all DHCP services on the router rather than a VM.

    That HP switch is sweet - it does Layer 2 stuff, supports ARP and relays DHCP.  You can do what you want with Astaro, VLANs and that switch.

    Right, but as I understand it I would need to route all the networks through the Astaro rather than through the L3 switch so that Astaro would have a local IP on each subnet. One of the reasons I wanted to keep the local routing at the switch level is I have faster packet processing at the switch than I will at the router.

    Barry -- Exactly. However, when I try to create a DHCP profile for the remote LAN i get an error as the Astaro device does not have an IP address on that LAN.

    Doh... I'm sorry. There's an option underneath of Advanced -> "Clients via DHCP Relay Agent".
