Uplink Balancing or Link Aggregation?

Hey everyone,

I have two leased lines, one DSL, one cable.
I would like to:

combine two lines, but in case of an error (one link down), the other would should instantly take over every connection.

What should I chose? Uplink Balancing or Link Aggregation?

Also, I would like to ask you for a step by step tutorial on the solution, because the KB isn't very useful, as it seems to point to previous versions with menus not present on my v8 Astaro appliance.

Thank you in Advance

Kind Regards

  • I don't think you can LAG the two because they will have different IPs.

I might be very wrong about that, but I think you'll need uplink balancing.
  • You need to use Uplink Balancing.

  • Configuring Uplink Balancing is straightforward, just follow the User Manual (Download at 'Support >> Manual').  Depending on what you want to do and how you are configured at present, you likely will want to configure some Multipath rules, but please start a new thread for that since it's a different question.
