Hot Standby Cluster: booth nodes active?!

Hello,
We have two ASG320 devices configured in a hot standby cluster (active/passive). Since the reboot of the active node (due to failover testing) we observed some strange behaviour.
Booth nodes are now active, furthermore the node that has rebooted is now named "unknown".

I am a bit confused now, till yesterday the passive node's status was always syncing. Was that or wasn't that normal for a hot Standby HA Cluster Configuration?

    If the Astaros would be in productive use I would already call the support, but actually they are in our test environment, so I first wanted to ask here [:)].

    After some further investigation about this behaviour I found out, that the active / active status is normal for a hot standby cluster, it just confused me cause of the same word.

    The think about the syncing status, that seemed to be normal for me before. But it was caused by a not connected backup heartbeat.
    I have configured an extra interface and connected it in the same way like the heartbeat interface (eth3) and all was fine.

    Malte, you should read through Create a Cluster for an idea of how this should work.

    It's apparent now that the two devices were "stuck" in "syncing" mode because there was no connection for them to sync!

    You must configure a sync interface and then connect them.  When the 'Backup interface' is configured, but there's no connection over the sync interface, you do have "heartbeat" between the devices, so you see the "syncing" message.  The devices only get heartbeat over the 'Backup interface' - no syncing.
