Internet uplink is down - error messages

I am using 8.300, but had this problem also with 8.203 (my first installation)

I have two PPPoE connections as follows:

eth0  internal  Ethernet
eth1  ADSL1   DSL (PPPoE)
eth2  ADSL2   DSL (PPPoE)

I am using Uplink Balancing, with both Interfaces as "Active Interfaces", and no Standby Interfaces.  I am using Automatic Monitoring.

Here is the problem.  Every time I upload a larger file (3+MB) out through the ADSL1 interface, I get an email "Internet uplink is down" for my ADSL2 connection.  I can watch the Dashboard and see the high output on ADSL1, and I can see for ADSL2 that the State is UP, but the Link is DOWN.

What could possibly cause ADSL2 to have a DOWN LINK, when the upload is going out through ADSL1?  

Update... as I was typing this, I saw my ADSL2 Output go very high, and the link now reads ERROR.  Eventually the outbound bandwidth went down, and then eventually the ERROR turned to UP.  The "State" stayed as UP.

I'm open to all suggestions.  I am new to Astaro, and this is a fairly underpowered server (1.7Ghz P4, 1GB RAM, DLink and LinkSys NICs) -- I'd get a better box if that is what is needed.

    Well, more power is always good! [:)]

    Based on what I've seen here over the last few years, I'd bet most of the hardware geeks would say that you should replace those NICs with Intel e1000 cards.  I don't know that that would fix your problem, though.

    If your two DSL lines are from the same ISP, you might pose this question to their tech support.

    Hi Bob.  I guess my main question is about the Status of UP, while the Link is DOWN or ERROR.  I can't seem to find any documentation or online help regarding the definitions of Status or Link.  What do these status messages mean?  That would be the first step in troubleshooting, is knowing what the problem is. [:)]

    State UP just means the NIC is working and enabled.  Link DOWN means there's no traffic for whatever reason, and that can be just as simple as not having a valid IP assigned to the interface, or your ISP limiting the combined bandwidth of the two connections.

    It sounds like your xDSL connection has lost sync due to an issue with the quality of your line (cross talk) and it's actually down. When the issue occurs, are you able to observe the status of sync on the xDSL modem or check the logs?

    Alternatively, if this does not seem to be the case I would suggest that you enable Quality of Service for each line and set it to 95% of the upstream bandwidth to allow SYN/ACK when your upstream is saturated.
