proxy auto configuration

Does anyone know if it is possible to use the 'Enable HTTP Proxy Auto Configuration' feature if your software is not licensed for the Web Security Features. The check box is available in the DHCP configuration under Network Services, but the configuration for the wpad file is greyed out in the "Web Security' section.

Is it possible to configure a wpad.dat file and place it in a certain directory on the Astaro do get this feature working without having the licensing for Web Security?

    While it should be possible to get a wpad file onto your configuration at the command line, I wonder if there isn't a better solution...

    Do you have another proxy server internally?  Before the Astaro, what did you use for DHCP?

    So the issue at hand is that the Astaro box serves as a dhcp server for public wireless connections on an isolated network. What I need to do is be able to configure proxy settings for wireless devices so I was hoping the Astaro software could handle serving the wpad file to those connections.

    I can, if necessary put up a webserver to do it, I was just hoping I could make it happen without the additional box.

    In theory you can.  When you enable proxy autoconfiguration, it adds an entry to the .conf file pointing to the WPAD file on the Astaro itself.  You could either track down where this file is stored and manually edit it, or manually edit the DHCP conf to point to a WPAD on a different web server.  If you are using a home license, go for it.  If you are using a paid license, this could negatively affect your support agreement, as manual configuration from the shell is not supported.  Also be aware that manual edits of this sort can be overwritten by updates.

    You should definitely consider adding a feature request to allow for more manual configuration (specifying a different web server for example) from WebAdmin at Astaro Gateway Feature Requests.
