Restore Reporting Logs

ARM definitely seems like a useful utility, but from why I've read, as of 8.200 it will no longer be compatible due to the report changes. 

I suppose what I'm essentially looking for is a way to maintain history through installations. Hardware failure is common, and a new installation seems to be required given most hardware changes. The hard copy executive reports are very useful, but unless that data can be backed up, the non-daily reports are skewed. E.g. the monthly or yearly reports would only be partial. Perhaps a feature request to maybe be able to back up the logging / reporting database. Would be a nice to have.

Astaro normally updates all their tools in time.

You can have the daily reports sent out by email if you're worried about losing them.

Oh I definitely already do that and it's quite convenient. My first installation was setup to email the Daily and Weekly Reports, and since it was up for just over a month, I managed to sneak a Monthly Report in there too. 

However, now that I've reinstalled on a different hard drive, the graphs do not contain any of that past information. So yes, I can go back to my email and look at July of 2011, or the first week in August, but on top of August only being able to report on a partial month, when I use the Yearly graph, I'm no longer able to compare metrics for the highest bandwidth used, or maximum connections, etc. Again, just a nice to have as I'm one who never likes to delete any data.

I wonder if it would be possible to backup the postgres database via ssh to accomplish this in a crude but potential way. Any thoughts?

Reinstallation is normally only needed if the NICs models change.

I was going to say earlier that you could clone the disk with Ghost or Gdisk instead of re-installing on a new disk, but since your old install was acting wonky, it wouldn't have been a good idea.

Another option for you would be to use some sort of netflow-based tools for monitoring and graphing your network (independently of Astaro). e.g. Argus
or similar.

Yeah Barry, believe me, if I could have gotten away with just cloning block for block from one drive to another, I would have. I learned a month long lesson not to use a Flash Drive in place of an archaic but trusty rotational Hard Drive.

On the bright side, however, it did give me incentive to ask a few questions, learn a bit more about Astaro as well as support related enhancements. Not all bad from my perspective.
