Best practise for hotel use

Hi,

a costumer wants to use an ASG with AP30 for a small hotel to provide free WIFI to his clients.

There is no accounting to be done, but he wants the possibilty to identify clients in the log.

Is there a best practise already used?

    Hi, Walter.  Interesting question!  I think the only other similar questions only had to do with making sure that only guests could use the wireless.

    I don't think this is possible unless he has an internal server capable of doing RADIUS atuhentication for the AP 30, or he has a Web Security subscription.  I'm sure you already thought of creating usernames with the room numbers.  Depending on the construction of the hotel, he might need a separate AP 30 for each floor.

    Please let us know how this works out.

    I was waiting for other input.  Come on guys, I can't believe, that no one has installed an ASG in a small hotel and can give some hints.

    Sure I thought about radius, but do you know a simple gui for a consierge to give out username and password for the clients? So I can also teach him to use webadmin and create onsite users. Using the room number with password should also be altered at a decent schedule.

    I know, that Astaro is not ready for a hotspot solution, but there should be some workarounds, that could help for an entry level.

    I don't know if I'd use any ASG stuff for that setup.  There are better setups to use, wifirush + open-mesh ap's come to mind.

    The hotel manager likes the idea of url-filtering and blocking of p2p and so on.  He wants to grant web browsing to acceptable sites and email checking, but avoid things he could be made responsible for.
    That's why ASG came into discussion.

    I'll have a look at wifirush and open-mesh. Thanks for that input. Will that ease his fears?

    You can still use an Astaro firewall with any wireless LAN setup.
