I'm hopping that I posted in the correct Bulliten Board.
I've been on a DSL connection for sometime, using the Astaro User Bulletin Board, and Google, I learned how to configure the DSL modem as a "dumb" modem, and use Astaro as my "true gateway." In addition, I learned how to add additional external fixed IP addresses to the interface, configure DNAT/SNAT, etc.
Recently, I needed to change my service provider from a DSL connection to a Cable connection, in which I was provided a block of /16 fixed ip addresses for the same price as the DSL conneciton [:)]
I was provided with the IP information, something that struck me odd was that they provide me 2 sets of IP, needless to say my world came crashing down, I haven’t seen this type of stuff before (being new [:$] )
The information that was provided was as follows:
IP Address: 98.abc.de.fg9
GW: 98.abc.de.fg1
Netmask: 255.255.255.240
IP Address: 174.ab.cd.ef2/28
And the ip address of their DNS servers.
I was told that I am to use the 98.abc.de.fg9 as my external IP address and 98.abc.de.fg1 as my Gateway IP
I was also told the following:
1. 174.ab.cd.ef2 can not be used it's the "network address"
2. they suggested that 174.ab.cd.ef3 be the gateway
3. they also said that the last 174 ip address can not be used because it's the broadcast address?……and that was it. [:S]
So, I configured my external nic from dsl to “Ethernet Standard” added the 98.abc.de.fg9 and 98.abc.de.fg1(GW) information, the Netmask accordingly. I rebooted the Firewall to be on the safe side, I understand that part of the puzzle.
After the reboot, I was able to get on the Internet without any problems.
My trouble is, how do I configure the other IP’s so that my servers are visible from the outside world? And how do I configure Masqerading (and DNAT/SNAT)?
I’m on Astaro Security Gateway Software version 7.510, with 3 NIC
