monitoring pppoe state from console

Hi,

I'm playing around with lcdproc on my Astaro Home (with a crystalfontz display). So I'm wondering how to monitoring the pppoe status in realtime from console (my ISP connection is sometimes unstable). Looking at file /sys/class/net/ppp0/carrier or "ip a" don't give realtime status because the system needs some time to recognize the interface is down.

What is Astaro monitoring in the dashboard for interface state and link?

Maybe anyone has an idea?

    Hi,
    what you are trying to achieve is not really possible from the console.

    You are better off having a monitor (PC) on you modem to see what is happening, but even then you might to refresh the display manually.

    The ASG continually pings the ISP's gateway and if it misses a couple the link is declared down.
