DHCP client hostnames not visible in DNS?

I can see that static DHCP leases have a check-box for making the client hostname visible in DNS.  Is there any way (say, a global option) to do the same for regular, dynamic clients?

    It looks like dhcpd is trying to register dynamic names, but it is failing for some reason.  I am seeing things like this in the dhcpd.log:

    2011:01:28-11:02:06 gateway dhcpd: if ***.qqq.com IN A rrset doesn't exist add ***.qqq.com 43200 IN A 10.0.0.106: timed out.

    any thoughts?
