LOGs Copy from V7 to V8:

hi Astaro Community,

i installed the ASG V8 in a new server, i will like to know if i can copy the LOGs files, like the directory /var/log/smtp/ from the version V7 to the version V8 without any problems ????

please help me cos i need these LOGs.

    Think it would possible you can then always read them in the console.
    Don't know if you can read them in the GUI. 
    You always can try it.

    But why are the logs that important that you need them

    You can use SCP to copy them off to a local PC or Server; copying them between versions is not supported.  If you need to archive those logs, just copy them and save them locally (not on the appliance).

    i want just to tell you that we use the Software ASG, we don't have Appliance, we installed it on very strong DELL server, can we copy them from the server Asg V7 to the server Asg v8 ??? using Scp, tar, ???

    just to know if there is a difference between the ASG Software & Appliance (i kown, you told me that the copy is not supported in the Appliance)

    There's no difference between the hardware or software versions as far as this is concerned. 
     
    What Bruce was trying to say is that the format may have changed between V7 and V8, so your best off pulling the V7 logs off to a PC using SCP, as it's likely that V8 cannot display V7 logs.

    we tried the copy, i can tell you that the Astaro Security Gateway V8 can read the old files LOGs from ASGv7, we tried in a test server, 
    when we use the graphical interface : https://192.168.168.1:4444 of the ASGv8, wa can read all logs copied by scp from the server ASGv7.
    i don't know why you always said NO, without any technical justifications.

    Tebbal, I said that it was not officially supported, not that it may or may not work.  Good to know that it did -- however, if the logs are that important to you, I recommend that you copy those to some sort of archival media or server; if the HD on the appliance dies, you will lose those logs, they are not backed up with the configuration.
