What I'm trying to accomplish is pretty simple, or so I thought:
When I VPN into my home network, I would like local host names to work. For example, if I want to RDP into my desktop, all I have to do at home is type in its name. When I use VPN, I need to know its IP. I'd like the host name to work from the VPN as well.
I figured the solution to this would be to configure the DNS under the VPN advanced settings to the IP of the astaro server. This does not work. I've tried to do more research into how the DNS for astaro works and it looks like its capabilities are quite limited.
Is there any way for me to get this to work without doing anything crazy like setting up AD or Server 2008 on a separate machine?
PS - If Astaro's DNS capabilities are limited, how come I can use host names on the inside of my network and not the outside? Do Windows machines automatically map the network and pull the host names?
