DHCP static mapping v8 upgrade problem

Greetings,

I upgraded from 7.5 to 8 over the weekend and have noticed 1 problem.

I had ONE DHCP static map enabled for 192.168.1.50 in a range of 192.168.1.50-192.168.1.250

Before the upgrade, the DHCP server always gave out the proper IP static address, and didn't duplicate it with another device.

After the upgrade, the static map address had been assigned to another workstation, and the computer that was expecting the static mapping was getting the 192.168.1.50 IP address, but was finding an IP conflict immediately with the other device.

Fixing the problem was trivial, however, shouldn't the static mapping have overridden the DHCP range?

I'm running just fine, but in case someone else stumbles, you'll have my notes.

    Hi, I agree that this is confusing and probably poorly documented (and should be fixed), but it has been stated here before that reservations must be OUTSIDE the DHCP pool's range.

    Different DHCP systems handle this question in different manners. Some require it in the zone, some require it out of the zone.

    Since Astaro uses such a rich setup environment, I'm suprised that it doesn't enforce such a basic concept. For example, my D-Link does this...

    Add a section of code in the DHCP static setup page to check if entered address falls in a dynamic range. Warn the user if this happens.

    Add a section of code in the DHCP range setup page to check if the entered range contains a previously entered static IP address. Warn the user if this happens.

    Hi guys,
    there is a problem with the DHCP server function.

    I have built a new W7 PC, enable IPv6 as well as IPv4.
    The PC is assigned the correct static IPv4 address, but failed to get the IPv6. It continues to be assigned an address from the DHCP range. The address appears in the license page but not in the DHCP server page.

    I have restarted the PC innumerable times due to MS security paranoia and restarted the ASG yesterday.
