Astaro + VMware ESXi

Hello

I got a problem with my first Astaro Security Gateway installation.
I have connected my server to the router, with the WAN port into Astaro, then a virtual LAN port to a virtual switch in vmware esxi, my clients are connected to the virtual LAN port. But they dont get internet connection, this is my very first meeting with Astaro, so I hope i could get some help on this question! If this works well, I'm gonna run Astaro as firewall for my entire network!

Hi Mortis,

Welcome to the list.

Couple of questions for you. Firstly, in the current config, are you able to access the ASG's web interface? Can you show me the config for the Astaro VM? What I'm wanting to know is which NIC is assigned to what vSwitch.

Astaro is typically setup so that the first NIC (eth0) is the 'internal' and the second (eth1) is the 'external' sides respectively.

Secondly, what errors are you seeing from the protected VM's? First things first make sure they get an IP. If they are but traffic isn't flowing, you'll want to start looking at the firewall rules. Astaro, like most commercial firewalls, has a 'default deny' policy so you have to explicitly permit the traffic you want.

Lastly, you didn't specify if this was production or home, If it's for home, consider putting in a second NIC. That way you can arrange three vSwitches (WAN, LAN, DMZ), ditch the existing Internet Gateway/Router, and play with the really fun parts of Astaro. [:)]

Also, please explain what makes you conclude the clients don't connect to the Internet.
