Yesterday, I finished running through the Setup Wizard and connected the external interface to the world (WebAdmin Support / Tools / Ping Check and DNS Lookup both OK).
Satisfied that the box could reach outside, but not wanting to let it connected at night without further configuration, I brought the interface down from WebAdmin Interfaces & Routing / Interfaces by clicking off External(Wan).
When I brought it back up this morning, it went Up in the WebAdmin interface, both in the Dashboard and in Interfaces & Routing / Interfaces. But I could get no connection through the ASG. The Dashboard showed no traffic on the external interface (0k - 0k).
I unplugged the cable from the NIC and plugged back in. The status in the Dashboard went "Status Up - Link Error". I could not get it back to up.
I connected the cable to a laptop that showed no link problem. From there I could check the router was not reporting any issue on the port. At the same time, external traffic was keeping flowing through another appliance.
From the WebAdmin interface, I went to Support / Advanced / Interfaces Table and saw that the external interface was marked DOWN, despite its green light everywhere else.
I restarted the ASG and got connectivity back.
But now Support / Advanced / Interfaces Table is showing state "UNKNOWN"
2: eth0: mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UNKNOWN qlen 1000
The internal interface is marked "UP"
4: eth2: mtu 1500 qdisc mq state UP qlen 1000
After another night spent down, eth0:, when brought up, came back with Link Error, interface table showing "DOWN", not showing in ifconfig. I guess it got disabled at a lower level. (Btw, how do you start the interface hardware from the console?) Rebooting the box brought it back up.
Is this normal?
Thank you in advance.
Didier
