PPPoE (DSL) and cluster configuration

Hi,

I have a question regarding cluster configuration and PPPoE. I read the cluster guide and anything else I could find but it's still not clear to me.

We have two WAN connections. One is a dedicated fixed line with fixed IP adresses. No problem there, I think.
The other is a DSL line (PPPoe) with username/password authetication but with a fixed IP adress.

Can I use both lines in a cluster configuration with two boxes? Will it work with active/passive and active/active setup?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello, TPok, and welcome to the User BB!

In both HA modes, I think it's only the Master that communicates with the external world, so there shouldn't be a problem.

    Cheers - Bob

  • it will definetively work in active/passive setup.
For active/active, not sure. Officially, active/active clustering is not supproted for "dynamic interfaces", to which PPPoE count. Of course, it _might_ work although, as you have _static_ ip adresses on the PPPoE interfaces. So I would say 50/50 chance ;-)
  • That's the information I found, too. I'll just call and ask Astaro directly.
