DNS Forwarder Order / Priority

Is there any way to specify / determine which order DNS Forwarders are used in? I have a few DNS servers (4 to be exact - paranoid? perhaps, but better too many than not enough I say! [:D]) setup in the DNS Forwarders section, but they are listed in alphabetical order so I'm not sure which order they will be tried in...

In sequence; if the first one doesn't respond, the next one is tried, etc. If none of them work, then the root name servers are queried. Also, you might be interested in reading this thread: https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/astaroorg/f/53/t/32566

Yeah I saw that thread, however I'm actually wanting to know which order the servers are tried in, eg; alphabetical, entry order etc...

Everything (except the static host list in the SMTP Proxy) in Astaro is processed top-to-bottom. In general, whenever a particular bit of traffic qualifies for a rule in a list, none of the rest of the rules of that type are considered.

Right. So in this case, since the servers are listed in alphabetical order, they will be tried in alpabetical order. Correct?

Well, at the risk of being labeled an anal-retentive, I'd say, "Since the servers are listed in alphabetical order, they will appear to be tried in alpabetical order, but the order is dependant on their place in the list." [;)]

Yes, but if you don't put them in alphabetical order, the Astaro isn't smart enough to follow alphabetical order. [;)]

Ah right. Makes sense [:)].

The list appears to sort itself alphabetically in any case (and with no way to change the order that I can see) so I guess Astaro kind of is smart enough... in a round-about way [:D]

OK, now you've succeeded in confusing me! Now, I can't prove if our forewarders are used in the order created or in alphabetical order. I'll change the definitions and check later.
