Dual WAN, PPPOE Conenction Problem (DSL)

I really like this forum! Excellent helpers!

There is the new challenge:

We have already set up a dedicated line (6MBit/s) that is working fine for years now. Now we want to set up a second WAN connection to extend our bandwith or/and to have redundancy in case of one of the line fails.

The "new" DSL Modem itself works fine. I tested the connection with a laptop (btw: German Telekom T-DSL line) and it's connecting properly.

Only in connection with the Astaro it doesn't build up a (second) DSL connection. I set up the correct parameters and logon info. But what the PPPOE log shows is:

2010:03:29-17:21:45 disgwac pppoe[6105]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets
2010:03:29-17:21:45 disgwac pppoe-sh: Can not connect DSL AC - retry in 60 seconds
2010:03:29-17:23:00 disgwac pppoe[6134]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets
2010:03:29-17:23:00 disgwac pppoe-sh: Can not connect DSL AC - retry in 60 seconds
2010:03:29-17:24:15 disgwac pppoe[6168]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets
2010:03:29-17:24:15 disgwac pppoe-sh: Can not connect DSL AC - retry in 60 seconds


It goes that way forever. Please share your expertise to solve that issue. Why does it not work?

    Maybe, when you tested it with the laptop, it's remembering the MAC address of the laptop.  Did you try leaving the DSL modem off for a minute before attempting to connect via the Astaro?

    Yes. and actually I tested it with the Astaro before. BEcause it didn't connect successfully I tried with the laptop.

    Still no success.

    PS: Please find the attachment for configuration info. I only shut down the interface when I cpatured that screen.

    Indeed, browsing through the forum for the last time I noticed that there are a lot connection problems with PPPOE/DSL, aren'T there?

    The main provider here is retiring equipment and all adsl lines must not use PPPoE even for static ips.

    Tried using a static ip in the Astaro setup and it would not work.
    Then tried leaving it out and the first ip was assigned to the port.

    After that it seemed like I could add it in and it would work.

    IPs added under the "Additional Addresses" tab have to then be toggled off and 
    on to connect. 

    Also the "Bandwidth Monitor" does not work for a PPPoE line.

    Hoping all these will be fixed in 7.505, and that it is soon!

    Oops, forgot to update the thread,
    that acutally can be closed now! :-D

    I have made all right. One weekend I have updated the Astaro to the most current version and voilá - suddendly it connected to the DSL line!

    In my opinion there was something fuzzy in between. A clean restart, new version... works great.

    Besides:
    Is there a way to really double the bandwith? Because right now only a complete line is used for a HTTP request (= either DSL line #1 or line #2 is being used, but not the bandwith in total, i.e. 6+6Mbit/s at the same time for a download).

    there are some proprietary techniques to double the bandwith with 2 lines but not in the astaro. also the provider has to support that. (see "netcologne lan shdsl" for example)

    btw: I think I used to have the same problem for a while. Went away with updating the astaro to a new version. And the Bandwidth monitor is indeed not working for the PPPoE line.
