I'm installing Astaro on a used but new-to-me P4 system which seems to meet all of Astaro's requirements. I have used Astaro for several years but will admit to not being anything more than an amateur with firewall concepts.
This particular installation has been difficult (for me) and has involved many many tries. Frequently the installation will fail, sometimes it will complete but the firewall won't work quite right.
Along the way I have tried standard, nosmp, and classic version many times each. To that situation I have a few questions:
1) If there is an issue with any of the features that are controlled by the choice of installation type (standard, nosmp or classic), would they show themselves during the installation process or only later while the program is in operation? In other words, if my installation fails, could it be because I have chosen the wrong type?
2) Is there any documentation that indicates which features should be enabled or disabled in the computers BIOS?
3) My computer takes about 8 minutes to verify the package checksums. After several installation attempts I am very sure that they are fine. Is there a switch or something that I can use to cause the installation procedure to bypass that step?
