DHCP Next Server?

Hmmm, was I wrong to think the dhcpd.conf would be in the /etc directory? Anyone know off the top of their heads where that bad boy is hiding?

The DHCP server and client are both (separately) CHROOTed... look in /var/chroot-dhcps/etc

You can normally edit the 'dhcpd.conf-default' file, but Astaro may still overwrite it, so make a backup.

Also, vote on the DHCP feature requests at feature.astaro.org.

I have actually been successful in setting up a secondary DHCP on my network for WDS, I believe it is the same as what you are trying to do.

I have setup the Astaro DHCP as the primary and I have used a windows DHCP with all the options necessary to manage WDS and destribute images.

One of the DHCP options that seems to make this work quite well is setting the secondary Windows DHCP for conflict detection. The primary is always working in the background but as soon as there is a PXE client making a request on the network the secondary Windows DHCP kicks into action and everything works flawlessly.

That is exactly what I would like to do. I have an ESXi box setup that I use as my test lab. I want to be able to use my net connection via the ASG, and DHCP via the ASG, but I want to be able to supply PXE via a FOG server I use for imaging. To do this I would need to be able to set the ASG allow for "next server" so it will hand off the PXE requests to my FOG server. 

Currently as a fix I have just stopped using the ASG as a DHCPD.

Is there a way to do what you have done with your windows server on a linux server? The only way I know how to do it is to set it to only receive PXE requests, BUT the problem with that is the ASG always sees the request first and does not hand it off to the FOG server. 

I have tried to manually change the dhcpd.conf file but the ASG just writes it over.

I do not know the ins and outs of Linux and I only have little experience with it.

The problem is that the Astaro does not support any scope options at all and if it could then you could easily fix your problem this way. Your Linux setup supports scope options but not the 'Conflict Detection'.

Idea...why not setup a VIRTUALIZED windows server for just running DHCP and maybe DNS so that you can accomplish your goal?

Just so you know, I have just checked three other firewalls that I use, Sonicwall, Smoothwall and Untangle and all have this feature of 'conflict detection' so right now it is only the Astaro that does not seem to have this feature.

I only tried to edit the dhcpd.conf. Should I try the dhcpd.conf-default? What does that file do exactly? I mean the name suggest of course that it is the default, but does that mean when the dhcpd.conf is written over that the ASG uses the dhcpd.conf-default to over write it?
