DHCP on Ethernet VLAN interface

Is there any way to enable DHCP client on a "Ethernet VLAN" interface?

I'm currently running Astaro in VMWare ESXi and have set up virtual NICs for each VLAN in VMWare. I can then add these NICs as "Cable (DHCP)" and each one will get its IP from DHCP.

However, I'd like to move the firewall to a dedicated box and this would require Astaro to do the VLAN handling through the use of several "Ethernet VLAN" interfaces. However these require that I enter an IP and do not seem to support DHCP.

Are there any workaround for this?

    How were you able to get your WAN link to work?  I have my internet-facing NIC configured with a vSwitch of it's own, then I have ASG configured with eth0 in the same vSwitch as the internet-facing physical NIC.  Astaro is not getting a DHCP address on the eth0 interface.  Am I missing something?  Is there another step besides configuring the Astaro VM interface to be on the correct vSwitch?

    Hi there are no DHCP on vlan in Astaro... why not... we need dhcp on vlan

    Just interested in. Why do you need DHCP on VLAN's? Normally (in our case) VLAN's are only used in the internal network, and there is no reason to use DHCP on them for us.

    Hi,
    I must be doing something wrong, my internal networks are vlans running dhcp from the ASG or have I misunderstood some of the posts?

    Hi,
    I think the bit you have missed is that you are running in bridged mode where your addresses are provided from another source external to the ASG eg your ISP. Bridge mode is sometimes used where you have a range of real (routable) addresses provided to you and you want these addresses to on your internal devices.

    To use VLANs and DHCP you have to put the ASG into non bridged mode.

    but we are running 2 or more vlan on wan..

    modem are runing in bridged mode... where wee hav tagged 2 or more vlan on..

    So you probably have not only a Home user license but also a commercial one, as you seem to use ASG for commercial use, right?  [;)]
     
    On the last Astaro roadshow there was announced a "Remote Ethernet Device"  for Q1/2010  which allow to create VPN tunnels from a remote site to a central ASG and also use DHCP and VLANs over this tunnel. Probably this is what you need. In addition to the correct license...
