Router Traffic?

Hi,

I don't think I am understanding what I am seeing on these traffic logs. From what I see it looks like the router is consuming half of the usable bandwdith. this is a little bizarre, I know it does updates but should I expect that it needs about 2Gb a week?

    Isn't that the IP of the Astaro's 'External (Address)'?  That's normal and just like all of our clients.  In 'Reporting >> Network Usage', on the 'Accounting' tab, select "yesterday" and click on the IP to see what traffic makes up the number you see in the Executive Report for yesterday.  I suspect that the number for that IP may include traffic from the DNS and HTTP proxies.

    Yes...that is the IP of the external WAN link, that is what concerns me. 

    You said this is "Normal", Wow! That is not expected, so the highest bandwidth consuming protocol is Http. Does that mean the Web Proxy prefetches? Why would I have 1.8Gigs of bandwith for this protocol to the router?

    If the router prefetches then somehow I must be able to control this feature.

    You need to think of it this way, bandwidth costs money. In my neck of the woods ISPs all over are reducing their allowable bandwidth and charging a lot more if you need more, if available at all. 

    So, my average business client can only get 30Gb of bandwidth per month and if they surf very lightly, which is unlikely, the router will use close to 10GB (Prefetching) a month itself. 

    This is important information for anyone using an Astaro for business.

    I believe all traffic going through the proxy will be counted twice: once for the internal PCs, and once for the external firewall interface.

    That doesn't mean the traffic is doubled.

    For example, I think the traffic counter counter sees HTTP traffic coming from the proxy ('External (Address)'), not from the internal IPs.  I think it's working a bit differently than you're positing, Mike.
