Move log files

I just upgrade/moved Astaro to new hardware.

My question is.. can I move the old log files (about a years worth) to the new machine?? I really don't think that I will need them, but just in case as I would like to be able to put the old hardware in place somewhere else and not keep it moth balled for a year.

Thanks

  • The hard drive can't be worth much.  I just put our old one on the shelf when we upgraded a year ago.  You're right, I've never gone back to it.

PS I know that I didn't answer your question.  I haven't heard of moving old logs into a new installation, but I did once use Winscp to move some off a drive once.  You have to go in first and chown to loginuser for the logs.

  • If the old hardware is to be repurposed, you can always SCP them off of the box (check under /var/log) and burn 'em to a DVD or something... copying them to the new box is not a good idea, you're better off just offloading the old logs to some other storage medium.
