Astaro simply stops responding on smtp, ssh, webUI

Guys,

for a few days now, I have a problem with our (now) 7.401 installation.
The ASL simply stops answering to SMTP requests, it doesn't respond to SSH logins and neither answers on the webUI port - besides, console login isn't working, too.

Any ideas? I happened to have the same problem on another hardware (tried installing Up2Dates, didn't help though), where the firewall even repeatingly denied routing after a few days - and I suspected bad hardware back then.

Hi,
It does sound like a hardware problem, but you should look at the logs too.

I had the same thought, initially - but now it already _is_ a new box (Dell PowerEdge 2950)...

Checking the logs right now, but I'm not seeing anything suspicious (besides some of the already well-known postgres' "unexpected EOF on client connection") - those logs just stopped being written.

So the system simply seemed to had stoppped doing anything but routing...

The box got unresponsive to logins (and SMTP, and SSH login) again, some minutes ago. Console login didn't help, either - so I had to powercycle.

I know that 2.6.16 had some problems with the Connection Table, so is there another kernel available?

There are several updates to 7.4, I believe some of them have different kernels.

You could also try the 7.5 beta series.

Astaro support is now investigating, seems that ip_conntrack is filling up quite rapidly.

I have a 7.5 ASG on custom hardware and I'm getting lock-ups after hours of operation. I can't seem to make head's or tails but the symptoms follow this thread exactly. Have we made any progress?

I use some shell code to dump /proc/net/ip_conntrack every minute into a file to compare the size. Result was that one box in our net had some rootkit which made _lots_ of new connections to the outside, which froze our box.
