Removing Bridge Renders ASG Useless

Beware if you are considering creating a bridged interface on an AS120 with firmware 7.402  I can't say whether or not the same issue will exist on other models and will leave it to members of this forum to make their own judgement.

I had created a bridge interface with interfaces e0 and e1, interface e2 was used for management. I then decided to change this so that interface e0 would be the outside (WAN) interface and e1 as the LAN (inside) interface.

I deleted the bridge interface but when I tried to add a new interface neither e0 or e1 are available, the bridge is still listed in the drop down list with members (e0 and e1). Interface e0 and e1 are not avialable for selection.

Rebooting makes no difference.

So now I have a brick in Kabul, Afghanistan and Astaro support tell me that this issue with the bridge is known about but there's no known fix.

I've asked for an RMA but I'm not holding my breath.

I guess the only other option is to completely rebuild the device with a DC and an ISO image. Thats not going to be a lot of fun with only non-techncial staff at the site.

Beware the bridge!

    If you have a recent unencrypted backup prior to the Eth changes, have someone put that onto a USB memory stick, insert the stick into the ASG120 and reboot the ASG.  It will see the backup on the USB stick and restore from there.

    Hi Bob,

    Great idea and thanks for offering it. I only have a backup file without the bridge configuration from another ASG120, could I use that?

    I have tried to upload the backup file from the other ASG but I'm not having any success.

    I browse to the location of the backup file and in the pop up window "Upload file" it states "Please select a file to upload, then click the Start/Upload button". Welle there is no button Start Upload, just Save or Cancel. I click on Save but nothing whatsover happens.

    So it lloks like the option to restore a backup, assuming I had one, isn't going to work either.

    Anyone want to buy a brick?

    From your original post, I had understood that everything worked fine until you tried to change the interface assignments.  Is that not the case?

    Hi Bob,

    I had a working configuration for about 2 weeks that had a bridge interface with interfaces e0 and e1 in the bridge and this was working.

    Changes at the remote site in Kabul meant that the bridge was no longer a viable option and that we needed to revert to an outside and inside interface.

    The problem started after deleting the bridge.

    I also opened a support case and Thorsten initially told me that this was a known issue but there wasn't currently a fix or work around.  He later cam back and said that the QA department advised that this situation could arise if the bridge was still being referenced elsewhere in the configuration. I checked and the bridge was being referenced, once I removed this the bridge was properly deleted, meaning that the interfaces were once again available for configuration.
