Uplink Balancing Problems

I have the following setup
- Public leased line: default gateway
- ADSL1 
- ADSL2

I use policy based routing to redirect outgoing http(s) traffic to the Internet and leave critical traffic (VoIP, Mail) to go out on the leased line.

What I want to be able to do is to bundle the second ADSL line to the first so that I can improve my web browsing throughput.

If I create a uplink balancing rule for the 2 adsl connections, I find that the default gateway is moved from my leased line to the ADSL bundled link.  This is not desired as I need my leased line to be the default gateway.

Is there a way to do achieve my goal, or is this currently a limitation of Astaro?

I have other clients who have 6 ADSL connections and they want to set up different bundles for different groupings, and they also need to maintain their leased line as the default gateway.  I also see a problem in that Astaro only allows a single bundling.

Any comments on this, or am I doing something wrong?

    Dude - what version????? 7.4 changes what you can do with this in a pretty big way. You using 7.4?

    If you've used the Uplink Balancing, etc. successfully already, I would appreciate seeing pics of your setup as such concrete examples are lacking in the Astaro documentation.

    We surely need for someone to answer the fundamental question being asked by BangkokBob:

    Thanks Bob.  Yes I am on 7.4.  7.401 to be exact.  I should have posted that.  The 7.4 series is the one that allows Uplink Balancing.  Previous versions do not.

    I'm keen to understand what goes on as well as to see whether there is a solution to my problem, and I think your suggestion of specific scenarios with screencaps in the documentation would be an advantage.

    Hi.
    At the moment you can direct traffic in “Multipath” , using  “By Interface” (which let you chose which line to use in the rule) only to one interface in the group.

    Not sure about it, but try this:

    1. ALL Wan lines should be under the "uplink Balancing" and your Leas line should be the first.
    2. Check that ALL lines that under "uplink Balancing" are marked as default gateway.
    3. Check that "uplink Balancing" configured to "Multipath".
    4. On "Multipath" add rule: Lan-HTTP-Any (Source/Destination)
    5. On policy rout, rout all http which go to the lease line – to the ADSL lines.

    Goldy, this is the first I've heard that a policy route was needed.  Are you sure about that?  I thought that the Multipathing rules were supposed to take care of the routing.

    But since (if I understood you correctly) you want to apply the Http only to the two ADSL, and ignore the Leasing line, and since all of this lines are under Uplink, and since you can choose only one line at the "Itf. Persistence: Interface", I can’t think of other way.
    It seems that the rules on "Policy rout", coming before "Uplink balancing".
    Like I said - not sure about it.

    I think Bryan got the "trick" from Astaro Support: https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/astaroorg/f/58/p/53372/193801#193801

    BangkokBob, when you get the result you're looking for, pleae post pics of your rules, etc.  Also, don't forget to select "Multipath" in the Uplink Balancing definition.  And, check out KnowledgeBase document # 303349, "Forcing HTTP (or other unique traffic) over a specific interface when balancing WAN links" which would seem to let you assign a specific link to '[Site 1 network] -> Any -> [Site 2 Network]'.

    I have the same problem and also search for a solution. The "Policy rout" workaround has a problem. "Uplink balancing" has also the intention to work well if one interface fails. If the interface with the "Policy rout" traffic fails, some connections will not work. This is very bad and difficult to debug situation. The "Policy rout" way is working, but in some cases it brings more problems than it helps. "Policy rout to Availibility group" shuld be a solution, but this is not possible to configure.
