Hello all.
I setup ASL(for a friend) with a DSL modem and noticed the IP address provided by ATT is a
private IP; 192.168.1.64.
Secondly, while the modem is DSL(incoming source rj-11), I could not get an IP address
using the PPOE. Instead, I used the Cable option and it was able to get an IP address.
Since this is my first time to deal with DSL(I'm a Cable subscriber), my questions
are:
1. Given the private IP adress provided by ATT, is that typical for DSL connections?
2. Is the use of Cable Modem(DHCP) for connection ok(inspite of modem is DSL)?
My friend wanted to setup a web and mail server behind ASL. Since his external IP is a
private address, I don't think he'd be able to serve services accessible from the internet.
Any suggestion or recommendation is much appreciated.
Thanks!
