One more quick DNS question!!! [H]
This is our current setup:
1) Our DHCP Server "Internal" (our internal LAN) is configured with 68.94.156.1 & 68.94.157.1 as our DNS Server 1 and DNS Server 2, respectively. (These are the two DNS servers provided by our ISP (AT&T))
2) In Network >> DNS >> Forwarders, I have the SAME two DNS servers as the ones in the DHCP Server Settings. (I defined those in Network >> Definitions and dragged them in)
My questions are:
Even if I leave the DNS Server 1 & DNS Server 2 fields EMPTY (or enter the default gateway of the ASG - in Network >> DHCP >> Our Internal DHCP Server) websites still resolve. It seems that it doesn't matter what DNS 1 and DNS 2 servers are in there. Is this because I have placed two DNS Forwarders under Network >> DNS ?
Should the two AT&T DNS servers (described above) be inside the "DNS Forwarders" box ? Or are other DNS servers supposed to go in there?
Some clarification would be great and much appreciated!
Or perhaps - how do V7.3 users have their DHCP Server set up (what DNS entries do you have in there) and what DNS Forwarders do you use for the quickest and most-efficient resolves?
Note Added 9:14PM: I believe that under "DHCP Server" the "DNS 1" entry should be our Gateway (ASG220), than under Network >> DNS, both AT&T DNS servers should be placed under "DNS Forwarders" (as defined in Definitions). I believe this to be the proper configuration. In this case, PC's on the LAN will ask the Astaro for a DNS resolve, which will in turn ask the DNS Forwarders for the resolve and so forth...
