TINCAN Service

I read the article on Wikipedia.  However, it never really states that it is a Service and it is called Tincan.  This is the first time I have seen it in my logs also.  Has anyone determined what it is associated with?

...and the service TINCAN represents more traffic through the SG320 than any other. Further, its all being creditted to apparently one IP. Which logs do you need posted?

If it's all from one internal IP, talk to the user, or see what's running on that computer.
MS' SysInternals tools are good for identifying what processes are generating traffic, or use Netstat if it's a un*x box.

TINCAN is a protocol usually used to stream media through a MacroMedia type app.  My Astaro at home needed port 1935 punched open for it to stream classical music I listen to over the web.  You need an example?

On the right side you'll see a link for "Écouter/Télécharger" (French for "Listen/Download").  The app streams music through the Tincan protocol.

Somebody is listening to music or other media.  You can block the port and (usually) no one will complain.

I realize this thread is pretty old but just in case someone comes here looking for answers I have more info on TINCAN.

I too noticed this protocol in my logs and I was able to trace it to the following application:

SesameStreet.org video streaming - it uses port 1935 as stated in a previous post.
