Download/upload speed logging

Is there any way of finding out max/avg downlink/uplink speeds on all interfaces? i would like to keep an eye on various transfer rates through my astaro (with history) and it would be nice if astaro itself did this for me.
shouldn't be hard to do, right? astaro already knows when transfers starts/end and the amount of data pushed through.

    yes, they don't give the "right" numbers. for example i know that i get peak of over 9.8Mb/s download (on a 10Mb/s line) from wan but the charts give me much much lower numbers. i think it is the calculation that is "wrong" (or should i say, different; perhaps it takes into account times when there is no data being transferred, esp at larger scales). a running "max" would be useful and would work for me. it would be easy to do.

    out of interest, is it possible to write custom reports? (i haven't looked at docs etc so apologies if this is a faq)

    The graphs are at highest resolution, 5-minute averages, so you'd have to have a sustained transfer to see it as a peak.

    The graphs are pretty standard MRTG or RRDTool, but I don't think they're customizable for what you want.

    IFTOP is available on the v7.x command line... it's pretty simple but it does have a 'peak' reading.

    You might also want to check out IPTraf; search these forums for a how-to.
    I don't think it shows peaks though.
