ftp proxy (frox) with which client?

I am a bit confused. Are you trying to install your own proxy on the ASG or are you trying to get it to work through the firewall proxy?

The ftp proxy on Astaro V7 is called froxy.

Sorry, no. I am not using the http proxy for ftp.

But anyway, the ftp server seems to be transparent only.
"Only" because this is without user authentication. Hmmm ...

I disabled the ftp function in the HTTP proxy.

I used the ftp function inbuilt to Vista 32 ultimate and was able to move freely around the Astaro ftp directories.

I have all ports below 1030 blocked. On the weekend I intend to download the v7.103 ISO in preparation to rebuilding my ASG

Your postings tell me that you have no idea what you are talking about ...

filezilla is too smart, it can't handle the ASG proxy not trickle feeding it.  You will need to hack it or ask the developer to change the way its timeouts are done.

Astaro changed the HTTP Proxy a number of releases ago to overcome the issue of web browsers that couldn't work with status updates, so they  thought they were getting trickle feeds of data.

The ASG ftp proxy downloads the whole file then virus scans it, maybe if you turn of virus scanning it might work. I haven't tried that approach.

I've tried frox on ASG220-7.104 and i cannot get any client to work with it!

I've tried ncftp and filezilla for instance.

Can someone help with settings of one of these clients, maybe filezilla?

What is the problem? It makes no difference which client you use. 
Perhaphs it is only a timeout problem. Try to set the timeout to 30 seconds. I used gFTP without problems.
