sip proxy mini-howto needed

Hello,

sip is new for me.
Do I need a extra sip proxy like siproxd?
Or is is enough to configure a client in LAN to use the eth0 of my ASL7
as proxy server and/or registrar server?
Do someone know a "client" in Internet for testcalls (incl. video).

    Hi mawasse,
    V7.x does not have a SIP proxy, but SIP helpers. You don't need a sip proxy. You will need to identify your voip phone in service -> network, then identify your provider. Add them to the SIP helper pages and away you go.

    I have not been able to get it working properly with one of my VOIP providers, they do strange things with the SIP traffic. I haven't been able to connect to my new provider with open access and they keep telling me it is the ASG even when it isn't in service.

    Things to watch are some providers use UDP for the SIP packets and others use TCP.

    thanks for the answer. Sorry for late reply.
    I do not have a SIP provider. Do I need one?
    The company is 24/7 online with ~15 public IP addresses.
    For first tests is it not possible to use sip:***@ekiga.net
    addresses?

    Hi Markus,
    you will need to subscribe to a VOIP provider before you can test the SIP stuff.

    I get the feeling that Astaro haven't quite been able to get the SIP (VOIP) helper working correctly, mainly because there doesn't appear to be reliable standard to configure against. I have 2 different VOIP providers and both have totally different configurations.

    I don't think it will work inter-company unless your far end is designated as you voip provider.

    I use mynetfone and I am trying to get my ISP's voip to work without much success.

    Hi Markus,

    if you need a SIP-provider, you can use sipgate.de. There you can have a free acount at least for testing.
    I use this with V7.091 and it works for me.
