Email notifications through ISP SMTP server

Hi all -

I'm having a small problem with the email notifications in Astaro v7.  My ISP (Roadrunner) does not accept incoming mail that is originated on a "Residential" IP Address.  So basically I can't receive any of the notifications in Astaro to that email address.

Is there a way that I can have Astaro send the emails through the ISP's local server?  I thought the SMTP proxy area perhaps but I'm not quite sure.

    You'd want to set the SMTP 'smarthost' to your ISP's SMTP server.
    (webmin: email security - SMTP - advanced)

    Hi -

    I tried your suggestion Barry, but it doesn't seem to work.  What I forgot to mention earlier is that I don't have SMTP proxy enabled (no internal mail server that would need it).  

    I can still get to the Advanced tab to make the changes for smarthost, but it doesn't actually take effect.  The mail headers still show mail originating from my IP to the remote mail servers directly.

    Any ideas?

    Just a thought; maybe enable SMTP proxy, set it to standard mode, and try it-- just because it is enabled doesn't mean you have to use it.

    Yes I thought that might work too, but v7 is a bit different than v6.

    It seems that the only way to enable SMTP relay is to specify the email domain and backend server, otherwise it will never start.  I have neither an email domain nor an backend server to specify I'm afraid.  

    I wonder if I could just put in all nonesense information to "trick" it?

    The search continues...

    Edit - I can indeed trick it.  I put in some fake information and now it will relay mail via the ISP server!

    Does anyone see a potential problem with my work around?  I'm not going to use Astaro as an SMTP relay, so I think I'm ok.
