On Monday at 2:00am my firewall started to display an increased load. It went from 0.25 up to 18 over the next 6 hours. With this load level the firewall was not responding to Https or SSH requests. A reboot cleared the problem and it has not come back today. This site should not have been experiencing any increased network load at that time. System log and kernel logs don't show any increased activity. Does anyone here know can I diaginose the cause of this problem?
