Getting no mail from ASL

Hi!

I installed 6.100, put a backup back in, updated to 6.102. Everything seems to be fine, except that I don't get any status reports or backups sent per mail. The selfmonitor live log states, that smtp is not running:

I also don't see any messages hanging in Proxy Content Manager. Whats wrong here? The old version the backup is coming from DID send mails.

The smtp config seems to be corrupt. Do you see any entries in the smtp-logfile. If the smtp process is not able to start, your ASG will not send any mails at all.

There is no SMTP-logfile I could check [:S]

Seems like the process never started at all...

Thanks for the hint, but that wasn't the cause.

Despite the checking of the installation packets, this instance of ASL6 was totally insane. Suddenly no interface was reachable from ASL's outside. Checking the interfaces with ifstat and other cmdline tools showed no error. Executing reboot, shutdown -r now or init 6 didn't reboot the box. IPSec connections died all of a sudden, administration was not possible due to "an internal server error". Turning off and back on a firewall every 15 minutes was not option so I have decided to bin this installation and reinstall ASL having no clue what could possibly have gone wrong. The saved and restored configuration file is now working perfectly, so it was no issue with my config.
