ASL v5.206 and NTP

Had a system crash yesterday, didn't check the time, but investigated it following complaints of no access and found the clock out by about 1 hour. NTP had not corrected the system time.

So is this a bug or am I doing something very wrong?

Upgraded to 6.001 installed lots of goodies and licenses, but the NTP update still doesn't work as per handbook/manual.

I have 3 devices on my network all using NTPs, 2 are that close it doesn't matter, the 3rd is out be 2 minutes and guess which one it is, the Astaro.

ASL is not a ntp server.  It has the ability to use just about any other ntp server to correct it's own time.

I realise the Astaro server is not a NTP server. I tried to set the NTP server up as per the manual, which advises to make it a network, you can't access a network from the NTP server on the settings page, you can only access a host.

I am using the NTP server for Australia as per the Astaro V6 manual, same as V5. - 203.60.1.2
I can see the NTP server being accessed from the logs, but the time doesn't seem to be corrected.
This linux box I am using at the moment and my network/modem interface are also updated by NTP and are very close in time while the Astaro is 2 minutes different.

ok..i bet your motherboard's clock is just hosed.  ASL probably updates every 5 mintues and your clock's skew is really really bad.   As you noted in the other thread..that mobo may not be long for this world.

the mb clock works fine, I corrected it while fixing the BIOS. Astaro has set it to UTC, but just doesn't appear to update it from the NTP.

But I still don't have an answer to the documentation issue.

Here's what the help inside the webadmin says:
:: Time Settings ::

In order for firewall logs to be accurate with regard to date and time, you have to set the firewall's timezone and local time here. The recommended procedure is as follows:

    * Set the timezone
    * Set the local time manually
    * Select an NTP server if you want to synchronize your time settings with an external host (recommended)

Here are some examples for NTP servers:

    * Europe: 192.53.103.103
    * Australia: 203.60.1.2
    * Afrika: 143.128.82.200
    * Asia: 137.189.8.137
    * North-Amerika: 204.123.2.5
    * South-Amerika: 146.164.48.5

Please note that the NTP server synchronization takes place hourly.


Following those instructions things work great.  However I have my own ntp server setup and all my boxes including the firewall synch to it.  

Which ntp server in the list(not the list in the above documentaion but the list inside webadmin) are you using?

I am using the one for Australia.

The issue being, the document as per the CD manual (same for V5 & V6) says make the NTP server a single network. The practice is that the Setup page doesn't allow you to select networks only hosts. So does the NTP software in Astaro ignore what type of "definition" the called device is and updates from the returned result or does it expect a different format depending on definition?

YOu define a network by ip..that is correct.  goto my previous post and goto ntp.org and use another ntp server if the preset one is not working.

I must be saying something the wrong way.

I will summarize the issue. 

The Astaro manual does not agree with the software.
