DNS Proxy Problems

Hello,
6 Weeks run the ASL 5.1 fine. But three times i have this problem. For my PCs i use the ASL as DNS Server. it works fine but sometimes nslookup, internet explorer etc. can´t resolve any DNS Names. First time i search very long to fix this problem. now i know, only turn dns proxy off / on an everthings is fine.
i am the only one with this problem?

I had the same problems.

How is your dns proxy configured?
Which dns forwarders do you have. Do you use an inside dns or did you put in there the dns servers of your provider?

DNS-Proxy makes a round robin. So if your configured more than one Forwarder and one of them send crap, you might receive crap. A restart of the DNS-Proxy might switch to another DNS in the list.

I have seen this problem also. It works fine for clients of mine for weeks, then on occasion it dies.

Maybe it has to do with possible accidental firewalling of TCP/UDP packets? (since DNS uses both...). Maybe it's a nonstandard long reply? (DNS responses are usually in one Ethernet packet, but not always...) It's something Astaro has to review, because the problem reappears from time to time (in fairness to them: it's a transient bug; the hardest type of bug to identify...)

same problem with 5.102
and my dyndns account can´t update the ip-adress without a working dns-proxy. this is not funny....

@astaro please fix this

same problem with version 5.200
ISP IP changing -> www.dyndns.org can not resolve, no ip update -> Server is "Offline" [:(]

the DNS proxy utilises the first answering server regardless if its responses make sense or not - the bad thing is that as long as the faulty server responds the proxy never queries other configured DNS servers , so it is not really Round Robin :-(
