Difference b/w Highlight, Filter and Logs

Can anyone tell me the significant difference between these three:
1. Hightlights
2. Filter
3. Logs

    1) Logs is short for "log files". With this box, you can select which log files you want to query.

    2) From the WebAdmin online help:
     [ QUOTE ]
      In Filter mode, you will only see the lines that match your search term. In Highlight only mode, you will see ALL queried logs, with your search term highlighted with red background. The latter option is not recommended for large time spans or multiple log files.
