smtp proxy problem again

I'm assisting in setting up a test network. We are using astaro linux 4.0. The network is config of all 2003 and 2000 servers. The mail server is running exchange 2003. The problem is I can get the mail to come into the exchange server but I can't send mail out. I've already config a internal dns name for the astaro box. For example astaro.test.com that name is than added as a smart host on the virtual smtp gateway on the exchange server. The astaro box is setup to allow outgoing mail on the internal_network interface. Has anyone came across a problem like this before?

    No I'm not just emailing internal addresses its a fully functional smtp setup that sends mail to the internet. The dns proxy has been set up. I've tried the 2 dns severs that belong to the dsl provider . I've also tried using the internal windows 2000 dns servers which were set to forward none lan request to the dsl providers dns servers anyway. The smtp sender verification is simply enabled. I just don't know why I'm having problems getting mail to go out. I've setup exchange severs behind sonicwall and wach guard firewalls several times  and I've never had problems like this. I've even went into the dns of the 2000 box and set astaro up a internal dns name. That I took that name and put it in as a smart host on the exchange 2003 smtp connector all with no luck.By the way I have the dns proxy listening on the internal interface. My allowed network for the dns proxy is the internal_network. Please let me know if you can help.

    Could you provide some details from whats NOT working properly. Its not clear where your problem really is.
    Anyway , can you telnet the Astaro Box on Port 25 from one of the inside mailservers , have you added your Mailservers to the outgoing allowed Networks ?

    After further investgiation its not the astaro box. I hooked up a linksys router and I'm having the same problem. I had regular dsl up until 4 days ago. I recently upgraded to the new exterme dsl it gives speeds at 3Mbp down and 384 up also I got a static ip. Do you think they are using some type of smart host system now or is there a problem with the exchange server. I also checked my external dns by using www.dnsreport.com everything was fine. I can also telnet to my exchange server by using my public ip. So do you guys think this is the server. Also is there a way to track messages bascially trying to see where they go when it leaves the lan. Exchange has tracking built in but it only works if you are passing off to exchange servers.

    I found the problem my isp just started blocking outbound port 25 how can I smart host so I can still use my exchange server.

    As I see it you have two options.

    1. Use the ISP provided SMTP server as the smarthost in Exchange and allow (packet filter) outbound SMTP from the Exchange server.

    2. Use the ISP provided SMTP server as the smarthost in ASL and the ASL as smarthost in Exchange. If you wish to use the AV filter option for outbound SMTP in ASL.
