Windows Update not working through HTTP Proxy

I am running my Proxy with User Authentication.

When a machine, using IE 6 goes to Microsoft's Windows Update site, it gets to the site, 

produces the message:  

Checking for Latest Version of Windows Update Software

and hangs forever.

Supposedly this is an ActiveX app.  What do I have to do to get this working?  I serched this forum for 'windows update' and did not find anything on this subject.

BTW, if I setup ASL to allow the client machine to {web} access to ANY, Windows Update works.

    Sorry if this is to simple a question, but have you changed any proxy settings to dissallow active X controls?

    Have you got http virus scanning switched on?

    Is the proxy in transparent mode?

    you have to have the   Anonymity: settings in the http settings set to none or windowupdate will not work.  also make suer you do not have cookies and activex and javascript disabled.

    Ah!!! I had Anonymity set to Standard.
