http-proxy with user authentication doesnt work

If you enable http user authentication on an ASL box, then only those user IDs that you have created within ASL (Definitions --> Users), who have also been given the rights to use the html proxy, can authenticate.

The way to get around this, if you have a Windows server domain on your local LAN,  is to go into System --> User Authentication, and enable a remote user authentication methodology, such as RADIUS or LDAP.

Generally speaking, forcing the users to authenticate before they are able to browse the web via the proxy, seems hardly worth the trouble. Unless you have configured for transparent proxy, the users can always browse straight out, without requiring authentication, via port 80. And if you do enable the transparent  proxy feature, then your users will start having problems when they need to use https connections using port 443.

thx for your help,but it doesn't work too.
i created the users, set the permissions(http.. etc.) and configured the webbrowser.
but it doesn't work.
i use w2k pro with sp4+ie6 sp1.
i see also a another thread with this problem, the user says it is a microsoft problem(ie6) and i set in the internet zone and intranet zone the user authentication(with prompt).
ähhmmm, it works not.
any idea?

I am curious if the http proxy works on a clean install (no 4.x import). Anyone experience with this? Does it work anyway?

no it is a new insatallation of astaro v.5, not a update or import from 4.xxx.

I have the same problem, if the username contains a dot like "firstname.name"

There are workarounds for this problem
