Norton workstion update problems

We want specific users not to connect to Internet using port 80, simply because they are not allowed to do so. They've got Norton AV running on their workstations. These have to be updated regularly and connect via port 80 to a URL address. We don't want to open port 80 for these users. Is there somebody who's experiencing similar issues and has an idea or solution. Thanks in advance!

    Try creating a rule that only allows those hosts to access the update servers ip's over port 80 while droping all other port 80 traffic.

    Since you are using Symantec's Norton AntiVirus, this should be pretty easy.

    On the PCs in question, click on the LiveUpdate icon in the Windows Control Panel. On both the FTP and HTTP tabs, select "I want to use my Internet Options FTP/HTTP settings". Click "Apply". Close the applet.

    This causes NAV to use the same FTP/HTTP proxy as has been configured for Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser for its updates. No more NAV updating through port 80. 

    If a lot of machines are involved, find the two Symantec Registry key settings that are being changed by the Control Panel applet, create a .REG file containing them, and get your users to click on it, or push it out to them through a server login script.
