demo astaro and surfprotection

Hi, 
I am testing the demo version of astaro and it seems when i activate surfprotection the responses during browsing of the internet are verry verry slow. Switching the surfprotection of results in normal fast internet surfing. Is this normal?

    Hmmmm, it would be nice to know which hardware you're running... but yes - the Cobion Protection needs a bit of ressources to check the content, and check the database.

    I am using the surf-protection on a few of my machines in the network. How do you have it setup under the "Operation" do you have it set to Standard , Transparent, Or user Authentication ?  I currently have 2 computers on the network set for "Standard" operation and have no slowdowns that I can tell on either of them. 

    It really should make it a bit faster as it also acts as a http caching proxy, I find no slowdown for mine that I can tell.... 

    Is it possible that you may be trying to PROXY your system that you access Webadmin ? 

    Webadmin should not be used through a proxy configure your browser so that connections to the security systems IP ie: 192.168.2.1 or whatever you have has the astaro box do not use a proxy server.... 

    This is possible why you maybe having troubles....

    the cobion database is remote so when your users do an http request it is routed to cobios.com for checking with their database..that lag is transmission to cobion..waiting for cobion to lok up that address..then sned the informaiton back to your astaro to allow or deny the traffic....i have turned mine off and am looking into dan's guardian as a squid add-on..[:)]

    Dansguardian is a good alternative. I have runned it here privately. If it could be added to astaro it would be fine. We want to use astaro here on a school so i dont thing licencing will be a problem. I am testing on the university campus at this moment, well if there is one thing it is bandwith....
