email virus scan

I'm just curious. Do I need to enable  pop and smtp proxies to use the virus scan option?  I currently am using the proxies but I am not using an email server in my network.  I would like to simplify things if I can.

    I have not used the POP proxy so I can not speak on it.


    However for email virus scans with the SMTP proxy you need an internal email server and need the emails to go through the SMTP proxy to your internal SMTP server.

    Now the POP proxy may eliminate the need of a internal email server, however like i said I am not familiar with the POP proxy.

    You do need to use a proxy for email virus scans though.

    I have 6 pop3 accounts on 5 internet domains and i use the mail scanner for all of them..it is easy to have asl scan yoour pop3..in the pop3 proxy turn it on..then under proxied networks make the source  Private_Networks_-_RFC1918 and the destination any and click add....now then make sure you have a anti-virus license...and turn on the virus protection..now any pop3 traffic you generate will be routed through the asl pop3 proxy and scanned for virii..[[:)]]  Make sure you stup the pattern up2date in the up2date section..[[:)]]
