Surf Protection Performance

I've noticed that the surf protection takes a noticeable bite out of performance when using a T-1 line -- often adding as much as a second or two to what would normally be an almost instantaneous browse.  Many users are complaining that Internet performance is worse than before the firewall was installed, and in each case stellar performance can be achieved by flicking off the surf protection.  Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions about this?  The surf protection is a great feature that is needed by many of our clients, but it also noticeably slows things down.

    A little bit more info on this.

    We've got an Astaro box running here on our lab network, and it's been noticed that if you turn on surf protection for any reason whatsoever (even if you're using a workstation that isn't part of the profile), there is a noticeable performance hit for everyone.  Web pages go from almost instantaneous display to a second or two, sometimes more, and in some cases many more seconds and then portions of the page might be missing.  I've seen this several times when doing Google searches on technical issues -- a long pause, followed by an incomplete display.  Turn off surf protection, and it's running like a banana peel on ice again.  What gives??

    Every time your are surfing a new website, the surfprotection has to contact a database to verify if the Website your are surfing is allowed or not. This takes 1 or 2 seconds. The result is cached for 24 hours.
    I think that this is the reason why surfing is a slower by using surfprotection.

    Yes, the slowdown is simply a latency issue. I think that the only way to solve this is to set up a dedicated URL database server somewhere in your network and configure the SurfProtection to use it as the first choice server. 
    It would certainly make sence to get one DB host for multiple large instalation running surfprotection.
