Recipient verification

Hi,

i've enabled recipient verification on Astaro. But now we get complaints that users don't receive mails from other companies. The following is recorded in the logs:

sender verify defer for : Could not complete sender verify callout

What may cause this ?

    Many mail systems (and I mean a LOT) do not support recipient verification, OR the admin on the remote system has disabled it or not enabled it.

    Hence, ASL cannot verify a lot of email and that's why your users are not receiving email.

    Suggest you do as I have and turn recipient verification OFF.
    (Shame since this really does seem to block a lot of spam [:(]

    almost every MTA can be configured to reject e-mail for unknown local users. and that's what receipient verification needs an SMTP error 550 'user unknown'. There might be a problem if the local responsible gateway is a relay too.

    Agreed, a lot do support it.  (I was being maybe a bit hasty with that comment [:)]

    However I stand by my comment that recipient verification is NOT good to use in a business environment.  I've tried enabling it a number of times and each time have got complaints about missing emails.  Examining the logs has shown legit traffic being rejected.

    Yes this may be due to incorrect or odd setups at the senders end but in my environment I can't afford to miss any legit emails.  (I work for a software company and some of the missing emails have been sales enquiries from potential customers).
    *Most* of the time it works fine.  But unfortunately thats not good enough for us...
    I've even had to disable RBL since customers keep getting themselves blacklisted.  Even our African office has had this happen since they are on a ADSL service that spammers use as well.  Whole IP blocks being blacklisted...

    Spammers need to be rounded up and sent to Iraq for use as Humvee armor.
