POP3 Problem with 4.010 and TOBIT / David

we have the same problem with fetchmail over the pop3 proxy since the Update to 4.010.
Seems to be an Bug -> Astaro?
We disable the POP3-Proxy and get the Mails directly.

Hi,

you are lucky to disabel the POP3 Proxy. We run the virus scanner over POP3 Proxy. But disabling the POP3 Proxy seems not the solution? The question is what chanched from 4.009 to 4.010 ? 

@bitbone did you fetch email also with TOBIT or do you use other program?

we have an intern Linux-Mailserver with Kaspersky Antivirus and get Mails directly from the ASL (SMTP) and get Mails from our Webaccount via fetchmail.

I think, it is a bug in the pop3-proxy.

I was also having strange pop problems using pop proxy after installing 4.0.10 update....
Reboot the firewall seemed to fix it...So far...But POP3 is still not getting loged.

stevecim, have a look into /var/log/mail.

The Problem with Tobit: Is it possible that Tobit is fetching mails pretty aggressive? Maybe several threads at the same time? Try to config Tobit to fetch mail less agressive. Maybe there are some configs for thats. The POP3-Proxy isn't made for such an agressively use.

yes it is true! ASL 4.010 is not able to handle to much POP3 Threads at the same time. 

in the LOG :

Aug 18 14:51:27 (none) pop3vscan[669]: MAX_CHILDS (10) reached!

and reading the notes from "Xeno"  gives me the hint.


TOBIT is fetching agressive. There is a parameter in

DVGRAB.INI

MAXPOP3THREADS=X

We put the MAXPOP3THREADS to 1 and all is working fine...

How do you get this error message if you have 4.010???
I thought that the pop3vscan binary has been replaced.
Btw. the number of threads in 4.010 is 20 I think.

i do´nt know how much threads the POP3 Proxy is able to handle (that mesasge cames out of 4.008 - without problem!) . Even the ASTARO Support was not able to gave me an answer on that question.  Fact is, that there seemes  a limitation  in  4.010 that  produces errors on these  mailclients who fetch more than  2? 10? 20? accounts  at same time .  Whatwever, reading the POP3 Log since 4.009 is not so easy  [;)]l .

Version 4.008 has an limit of 20 Threads.
Version 4.010 has an limit of 10 Threads.
This is to prevent DOS-Attacks.

Configure your Client to not have more than 10 Threads at a time. If there are more than 10 Threads, some errors (maybe some wrong errors) will occure.

you are wrong! I am not lying. Have had a long mailcontact with your support, yes, but ASTARO Support has not! solved these problem! All answers to our support request was that our mailclient is doing wrong. 

Please, don't tread your customers like a fool.

If you not agree with "Even the ASTARO Support was not able to gave me an answer on that question", so have a look at the mails to and from Tim. My question was loud and clear

Yes, we got a "very detailed" answer on our support request - after! your dummie customer has understood what happen in the POP3 Proxy solved himselv and gaves these hints to you!

Well, lets see... you have a rather exotic client (before this thread I have never heard of Tobit before) which which DOSs the firewall (if you ask me, you should have called Tobit support, a lot of mail servers do not allow more than 1 thread per IP). The solution comes less than a week later (not from the support though but that is what this bb is all about) and you are saying that someone treats you as a fool? Try reporting a bug to Microsoft and see if it gets fixed within a month [;)]nternet.

please do not talk about thinks you don't know.  Well, TOBIT these rather exotic client is isnstalled on more than 350.000 companys doing a very good job. Why should i call Tobit support if these strange behaviour only comes along with ALS 4.010? And all mailservers we are using are able to handle more than 1 thread. Maybe you as a single user, using a home licence  don't need more performance - and more support.  Have you tryed to use more than 1 POP3 Proxy  Childs - will say a DOS (as you described)  of maybe two connections at ASL 4.010? Well, try - see, and understand! 

And if I need your personal help, i will ask you. Up to now, I am in discussion with Astaro support - it seems there is more than you and I know about the POP3 Proxy in ASL 4.010.
