Blocking unauthorized file downloads

I am supporting an ASL box in a small school district. I need to restrict unathorized downloading of files. Is there a feature in ASL that will allow me to do this? Possibly Surf Control? I have read through the posts and also the features descriptions of the products and have been unable to confirm the specific  ability to do this. Any help or direction would be appreciated.

    surf protection doesnt include the feature to restrict unauthorized downloading of files. its only blocking url by filtering it if you added a catagory to the Surf Protection Profiles.

    a blacklist entry like '\.pdf' would block all url's containing pdf documents.

    i think you dont want to block a url. blocking the url is not the way you want to work. the page can contain information what you want to see. only what you dont want is example. blocking the files.if you click on an download link that astaro then comes with an error or screen with youre not allowed to download this file. blocking a specific file in a page not the whole url.

    is this possible in astaro or feature request

    Have you had a look at SquidGuard, Dans Guardian or CensorNet ? These are all GPL Linux products that may do what you require. Censornet in particular may be of interest.
