SMTP data timeout error

I am running Astaro 4.009 and just this week I enabled the SMTP proxy on my system.  I seem to be able to receive email from some domains quite nicely.  Others, however, are posing problems.  I have included a sample SMTP proxy log message in the hopes that someone can help me to identify the problem and correct it.  The messages seem to reappear roughly every 15 minutes.

Jul 31 18:18:24 (none) exim[13532]: 2003-07-31 18:18:24 SMTP data timeout (message abandoned) on connection from (mailserver.domain.ca) [ip address]

    one information; maybe its helpful.
    I informed our online-provider (deutsche telekom) about this error.
    They recocnized a lot of crc-errors on their router. So they checked their POPs and found something, but they would'nt tell me. [:$]) .. whatever. 
    Now for one hour there are no more "message abandoned" logentries.
    I think this was the solution.

    Perhaps that's the same thing that happened on my end.  Except, I didn't engage my provider.  I simply decided to reboot my firewall and after it came up the emails started to trickle in over 20 minutes.  It has been working fine ever since.
