MS Exchange has feature that allows you to grant SMTP relay privileges by BOTH IP address and/or password. If your not on an 'relay allowed' address, but you have the correct password, it lets you relay anyway (you've been authenticated by password).
That's a nice feature, because you can still be on the public internet and still use your SMTP server to relay your messages for you instead of limiting it only to the internal network or whatever. For instance, I carry a handheld wireless device that I use to send/check email via POP3 and SMTP. This device gets a dynamically assigned IP from my ISP so if I use the Astaro SMTP proxy I'm thinking my only choices would be to open it up to a range of IP addresses that the handheld uses (bad idea) or drop the proxy altogether and just authenticate directly to exchange; that is also a bad idea because I paid $50 for SMTP virus filtering : (
Any ideas on a possible workaround?
